Publix To Expand Operating Hours

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Publix supermarkets will extend operating hours this week after nearly two months of shortened hours during the COVID-19 pandemic. A statement from the Florida-based supermarket chain said the company has extended its hours to 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Prior to the pandemic, most stores were open until 11 p.m. and some were open until 10 p.m. The chain shortened its hours after the pandemic began to give time for staff to stock the shelves.

The social distancing and disease prevention measures the grocer put in place during the pandemic remain, from plexiglass barriers at cash registers to one-way shopping aisles.
