As Florida approaches the busy part of hurricane season, storm prep is underway. Sometimes, a good distraction from the stress of an impending storm comes in the form of a cake. A hurricane cake, to be exact.

But after photos of hurricane cakes from Publix went viral on Twitter in September 2022, days before Hurricane Ian made a devastating mark on the Sunshine State, the Lakeland-based grocery chain issued a statement on hurricane cakes and essentially discontinued selling or producing those types of cakes.
