Pueblo's high temperature Wednesday hit 77 degrees and broke a record of 76 that was set back when the Senate Bar had just opened in downtown Pueblo, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was president, Albert Einstein was working on the Manhattan Project and Lou Gehrig was named the youngest member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame at 36.

That 1939 temperature record held the title for 84 years until 1:40 p.m. Wednesday when the Home of Heroes got one degree warmer.

Beginning to look a lot like Christmas? Not yet in Pueblo: Several people were spotted walking along the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk on Dec. 7 to take advantage of the warm weather as the Pueblo area saw highs in the upper 60s. However, snow may be on its way Friday.

"The normal high for this time of year is 49 degrees, so we were almost 30 degrees above that," said Stephen Rodriguez, meteorologist for the National Weather Service's Pueblo office. "We'll see a big change in the overall pattern Friday with an anticipated high of 45 degrees."

With Wednesday's high hitting 77, and Thursday nearing 70 (getting close to the 1970 record for the day of 76 degrees) Friday's weather will be a big change.

"The approaching system will hit late Friday and into Saturday morning, bringing snow to the higher terrain and potentially some snow to portions of the I-25 corridor and Pueblo," Rodriguez said. "It looks like a higher likelihood of between 50 to 60% chance of snow, but Pueblo will probably just get a half-inch or less," of accumulation.
