Pueblo sheriff's office investigating after man killed in head-on collision in Pueblo West

A man was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks in Pueblo West Saturday and the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to an area near the intersection of W. Locoweed Drive and W. Carrizo Springs at about 4 p.m. on a report of a head-on collision, according to a Monday news release from the PCSO.

When deputies arrived, they learned that a 2017 Ford F-250 being driven by a 35-year-old man had collided with a 2007 Chevy Silverado truck being driven by a 64-year-old man. Life-saving measures were attempted on the driver of the Silverado, however, he died of his injuries.

A preliminary investigation, according to the PCSO's release, indicated the driver of the Silverado was going eastbound on W. Carrizo Springs when the driver of the Ford crossed the double yellow lines while attempting to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with the Silverado.

The 64-year-old victim was the lone occupant of the vehicle. The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased after his next-of-kin have been notified.

The driver of the Ford was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, a 27-year-old woman, was flown by Flight for Life to a Colorado Springs hospital with life-threatening injuries.The cause of the wreck is still under investigation. However, excessive speed, drugs and/or alcoholand unsafe passing are being considered factors, according to the PCSO.
