Pueblo's top high school games to watch the week of April 24-29
The spring season is in full bloom and many of Pueblo’s schools are starting to find their place in their respective sports.
From major matchups on the diamond and important serves in tennis, to crowning a champion in track and field, this week’s action for the Pueblo high school teams is pumped full of excitement.
Each week, the Chieftain selects the best home games to watch for the upcoming week.
Here are our selections for April 24-29.

Baseball
Pueblo County vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, Monday, Apr 24, 4 p.m.
Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Centennial at Runyon Field, Monday, Apr 24, 4 p.m.
Pueblo East vs. Pueblo Central at Runyon Field, Monday, Apr 24, 7 p.m.
Buena Vista vs. Rye at Rye High School, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4 p.m.
Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East at Runyon Field, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4 p.m.
Pueblo West vs. Pueblo South at Runyon Field, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4 p.m.
Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo Central at Runyon Field, Tuesday, Apr 25, 7 p.m.
Peyton vs DHPH at Runyon, Thursday, Apr 27, 4 p.m.
Denver North vs. Pueblo Central at Runyon Sports Complex, Thursday, Apr 27, 7 p.m.
Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo South at Runyon Field, Saturday, Apr 29, 10 a.m.
Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo County at Runyon Field, Saturday, Apr 29, 1 p.m.
Pueblo West vs. Pueblo East at Runyon Field, Saturday, Apr 29, 4 p.m.
A busy week in baseball as the South-Central League standings are starting to take shape. County visits West on Monday for a big matchup of the top two teams in the league standings right now. South takes on Centennial and Central hosts East later in the day. Tuesday sees Class 2A top team Rye host Buena Vista at home and then the Hornets visit the Eagles while the Colts host the Cyclones. Dolores Huerta has another home game this week against Peyton on Thursday and Central hosts Denver North later on that same night. Finally, the week ends with South taking on Central, County hosting Centennial, and East hosting West, all on Saturday.
Girls tennis
Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4 p.m.
La Junta vs. Pueblo Centennial at City Park, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4 p.m.
Pueblo West vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County High School, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4 p.m.
Pueblo West vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School, Thursday, Apr 27, 4 p.m.
Salida vs. Pueblo County at Hornet Tennis Courts, Saturday, Apr 29, 10 a.m.
Some good action on the tennis courts this week as we inch closer to the end of the season, as Pueblo South and Central battle on Tuesday while West and County meet up at Pueblo County High School on the same day. Also playing on Tuesday is Pueblo Centennial, against La Junta. On Thursday, we have East and West facing off and Pueblo County hosting Salida to wrap up the week of tennis on Saturday.
Girls soccer
Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East at Langoni Field, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4:30 p.m.
Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Centennial at Langoni Field, Tuesday, Apr 25, 4:30 p.m.
Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, Wednesday, Apr 26, 6:30 p.m.
Pueblo County vs. Pueblo Centennial at Langoni Field, Thursday, Apr 27, 4:30 p.m.
Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo East at Langoni Soccer Field, Thursday, Apr 27, 4:30 p.m.
Pueblo Central vs. Rye at Rye, Friday, Apr 28, 3 p.m.
Pueblo South vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, Saturday, Apr 29, 5:30 p.m.
The S-CL standings in soccer are starting to work themselves out on the soccer field as Pueblo County is trying to make a name for itself as the top squad in the league. They will face Pueblo East to start the week, while the Colts visit the Bulldogs on the same day. Second-place Pueblo West hosts Pueblo Central on Wednesday. Later in the week, County takes on Centennial while Central visits East on Thursday. Friday sees Central heading to Rye for a battle against the Thunderbolts, while the week ends with the Colts facing off against the Cyclones on Saturday.
Boys swim and dive
Widefield vs. Pueblo County at Hornet Swimming Pool, Tuesday, Apr 25, 5 p.m.
This week, the lone swim meets in town sees Widefield pay a visit to Pueblo County as the Hornets look to lock up some more state qualifiers this week in the pool. The dual takes place on Tuesday.
Girls lacrosse
Denver South vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, Tuesday, Apr 25, 5:30 p.m.
Girls lacrosse has one of the last two remaining home games this week as they take on Denver South at Pueblo West High School on Tuesday.
Track and field
Varsity S-CL Championships at Pueblo West Thursday, Apr 27, 3 p.m.
One of the final track and field events to happen in Pueblo this season will take place this week as the South-Central League championships are scheduled for Thursday starting at 3 p.m. at Pueblo West High School.
Boys volleyball
James Irwin Charter vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, Thursday, Apr 27, 6 p.m.
The co-op team for the Colts is really looking for a break this week as they host James Irwin Charter on Thursday. The Colts are on a two-game losing streak and have yet to beat the Jaguars this season (0-2).
Girls golf
Hornet Invitational at Holly Dot Golf Course, Friday, Apr 28, 9 a.m.
The lone golf tournament in town this week is the Hornet Invitational, which will be held at Holly Dot Golf Course on Friday. The first tee time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
Boys lacrosse
Middle Park vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, Friday, Apr 28, 5 p.m.
A double dose of lacrosse this week as the boys host Middle Park Friday at 5 p.m. at Pueblo West High School. The Cyclones co-op team is 2-1 in league play and 3-6 overall on the season. They sit fourth in the 4A Metro league standings.
