A slate of best-selling and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors fills out this season's MorseLife Health System Literary Society's Breakfast with the Authors series, which returns this month for its 15th run and the first in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The invitation-only events kick off Thursday with Anthony Doerr, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "All the Light We Cannot See" and the New York Times bestselling "Cloud Cuckoo Land."

MorseLife Health System President and CEO Keith A. Myers said the organization is excited to have Doerr return — he also spoke during the 2016 series — to kick off this season's events.

"The Literary Society Series is a very special event designed to honor our key supporters," Myers said. "With support from our donors, we’ve been able to expand MorseLife’s operations with a multitude of new programs that continue to honor senior living with excellence and dignity. We love being able to say 'thank you’ with this innovative and informative series.”

Doerr's "Cloud Cuckoo Land," released in September 2021, follows the lives of five characters whose paths intertwine across centuries thanks to their love for the same book.

Each of the four events in this year's series includes details from the authors about their writing process and inspiration. A question-and-answer session follows each presentation. This year's series hosts are Cynthia Berenson, Penny Blumenstein and Marlene Strauss.

The series also includes Hernan Diaz on Jan. 12, Jennifer Egan on Feb. 9 and Geraldine Brooks on March 9.

Diaz on Jan. 12 will discuss his novel "Trust," which puts two competing narratives into conversation with one another — and in tension with the perspective of one woman bent on disentangling fact from fiction.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Egan on Feb. 9 will discuss "The Candy House," a novel that takes place in a future where technology allows people to access and share all of their memories.

This series' final installment on March 9 features Brooks discussing her novel "Horse," based on a true story about a record-breaking racehorse.

MorseLife is celebrating its 39th year of providing health care, housing and supportive services for seniors. The nonprofit's programs include memory care, long-term care, hospice, palliative care, meal delivery, care management and counseling. The organization serves 3,600 seniors per day.

Breakfast attendance is by invitation. For more information, go to www.morselifeevents.org, email events@morselife.org or call 561-242-4661.
