Pumice Stones Cover Beaches in Okinawa After Undersea Volcano Eruption

Beaches on Japan’s Okinawa island were left covered in pumice stones on October 31 after an undersea volcanic eruption earlier in the year.

At least 40 boats were left damaged as pumice washed ashore at 16 fishing ports in Okinawa and Kagoshima, according to Kyodo News. The stones were reported to have originated from the Fukutoku-Okanoba volcano, located more than 1,000 kilometers away.
