Pumpkin Spice and everything nice: Here are 8 locally-owned drink shops to try for fall flavors

Friday is officially the first day of fall, even though Texas probably won't feel it for another few weeks. Despite that, fall flavors are back in season.

Whether you like pumpkin spice, apple cider, or hot chocolate, the flavors of fall can be found in most places now. Here's what fall tastes like, according to eight locally-owned Lubbock drink shops.

Caffeination Station is currently a mobile coffee shop, typically set up at 5700 98th St. Meredith Ratke started the business with her best friend Kenlea, in Muleshoe in 2020 as a seasonal shop. Ratke moved the business to Lubbock, and is planning to open a storefront later in 2023. Their fall menu offers a mix of pumpkin, marshmallow and maple flavors.

The menu:

  • Charlie Brown - a brown sugar Breve macchiato.

  • White Pumpkin - pumpkin and white chocolate mocha Breve.

  • Evening Hayrides - a mocha cold brew with pumpkin cold foam.

  • Sweater Weather - a toasted marshmallow chai with caramel drizzle.

  • Autumn Moon - a cinnamon and caramel pecan hand frothed oat milk latte.

  • Maple Leaves - a maple and almond latte.

  • Fall Dreamin' - a toasted marshmallow and hazelnut latte topped with cinnamon powder.

J&B Coffee

One of the older coffee shops in Lubbock, which started in 1979, J&B at 2701 26th St. is a classic stop in the Heart of Lubbock area. Their expansive drink menu offers a little bit of everything, which is reflected in their fall flavors. Fans of coffee, tea, and lemonade can find an autumnal favorite here.

  • Pumpkin White Mocha, with espresso, pumpkin, white mocha, cinnamon powder, and milk.

  • Pumpkin Chai Latte, with pumpkin, spiced chai, and milk.

  • Candied Pecan Latte, with espresso, hazelnut, cinnamon and brown butter coffee syrups, milk, and cinnamon powder.

  • Sweater Weather Latte, with espresso, gingerbread and toasted marshmallow syrups, brown sugar and milk.

  • Cinnamon Orange Fog, with steamed milk, vanilla syrup, hot cinnamon and orange tea.

  • Autumn Breeze, with apricot tea, vanilla syrup, and lemonade. Served iced only.

Java Jet:

Java Jet, one of four locally-owned mobile drink operations in town, changes locations often. For their fall menu, they are sticking with the classics, pumpkin. It's a classic for a reason, and people can keep up with them via social media.

The menu:

  • Pumpkin Spice Chai.

  • Pumpkin Pie Latte.

  • Pumpkin Frappe.

Lemon in Paradise

The newest lemonade mobile truck in town has only been around for two months, but is ready to show off some unique fall flavors for their first season. Jennifer and Nirav Patel, the owners, decided to create their business while they were on their Hawaiian honeymoon. Follow their social media for locations.

The menu:

  • Hot chocolate.

  • Apple cider.

  • Hot lemonade.

  • Hot tea.

  • Flavor add ins: Pumpkin spice, honey, cinnamon, peppermint, caramel, and vanilla.

  • Toppings: Marshmallows, whip topping, or a cinnamon stick.

They will also offer Apple Nachos, which will be a sliced Granny Smith apple with a choice of a chocolate or caramel drizzle, and two toppings. Topping choices are crushed peanuts, graham cracker crumbs, Oreo crumble, sprinkles, marshmallow, whip topping, cinnamon dust and nutmeg dust.

Lemon Love LBK

The first lemonade mobile truck in Lubbock opened in September 2022 with Jessi Garcia, who brought her mother's successful lemonade recipes from Nebraska. While Lemon Love is known for lemonade, their fall menu introduces a variety of hot chocolates, ciders and teas. Follow their social media for locations.

The hot chocolate menu:

  • Classic.

  • Lavender.

  • Peppermint.

  • Pumpkin Spice.

  • Cinnamon Roll.

  • Salted Carmel.

  • Raspberry.

  • Vanilla.

  • Smores.

  • Cookie Dough.

  • Tiramisu.

  • Mexican Hot Chocolate.

Monomyth

Monomyth has been around since 2019, when brothers Trenton and Randall Jackson opened the doors to their dream coffee shop at 2024 Broadway. The name means one story, referencing the Hero's Journey. Their September specials introduce three tastes of fall that go beyond the expected.

The menu:

  • Firefall Latte, with house-made fall spice syrup.

  • S'mores Latte, with graham cracker infused milk, mocha and roasted marshmallows.

  • Apple Pie-Der, an apple cider with caramel and Firefall.

Paint Rock Coffee

One of the newer brick-and-mortar coffee shops, Paint Rock Coffee Co. opened in the summer of 2022 at 2002 Broadway. Owner Tommy Bonnen envisioned bringing the outside in, and the shop has become known for the colorful hanging garden chairs. Pumpkin spice stars in their fall menu, which offers three drinks and several pastries.

The menu includes:

  • Pumpkin Spice Latte.

  • Pumpkin Spice Chai.

  • Pumpkin Spice Apple Cider.

  • Orange Cranberry Muffin.

Sugar Browns Coffee

The first Sugar Browns opened in the early 2010s, and has since expanded to multiple locations. People can try the menu at 1500 Broadway, 6701 Indiana Ave. or 6023 82nd St., Suite 1. Their fall menu includes two pastries and three drinks.

On Sept. 20, Sugar Browns announced that the Broadway location would close on Sept. 29, and the 82nd Street location would close on Sept. 30. The Indiana location will remain.

The menu:

  • Pumpkin Latte.

  • Butter Pecan Latte, can be hot or iced.

  • Maple Shaker, iced.

  • Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin.

  • Maple Walnut Donut, which in-house candied walnuts.
