Punter Joseph Charlton among five waived as Cleveland Browns get down to 80

BEREA − The Browns waived five players on Monday, which allows them to get down to the mandatory 80-player limit they need to be at by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The most notable of the five players was punter Joseph Charlton. Charlton had been in a battle all offseason with Corey Bojorquez for the punting job.

Bojorquez, who was signed as a free agent from Green Bay, is likely to handle the punting duties.

Charlton did not punt in Sunday's preseason game against Philadelphia. He had punted twice for a 47.5 yards-per-punt average in the opener against Jacksonville.

Also waived by the team was tackle Wyatt Miller, who had been signed just last Wednesday. Safety Luther Kirk IV and cornerback Parnell Motley, as well as tight end Marcus Santos-Silva, also were waived.

Santos-Silva was a former basketball player at VCU and Texas Tech.
