Puppy Bowl 2024 highlights Nashville shelter dogs: How to watch local puppies compete

The sports event of the year which so many dedicated fans across the country have been waiting for is almost here — Puppy Bowl XX! To celebrate the 20th annual event, four previous Puppy Bowl players will return to be inducted into the all-new Puppy Bowl Hall of Fame.

Additionally, three adorable, good boys from a local Nahsville-area shelter will be featured during this year's game. Archie, Ozzy and Sherlock from the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue will be included amongst the competing lineup.

What is the Puppy Bowl?

The Puppy Bowl is an annual, televised event which aims to raise awareness and inspire pet adoption. The program mimics an American football game but instead of burly, athletic football players, playful puppies are the ones competing.

It is the longest running call-to-adoption television event.

Who is competing in Puppy Bowl 2024?

Competing in Puppy Bowl XX will be team Team Ruff and Team Fluff. The teams are composed of 131 adorable players from 73 shelters, across 36 states.

The 20th anniversary show will feature the all-time smallest pup, Sweetpea a 1.7-pound Cavapoo, and the biggest, Levi, a 72-pound Great Dane. Six special needs puppy players will also be introduced including Riddle, a pug terrier who suffers from the neurological condition cerebellar hypoplasia, Mr. Bean, a papillon who only has his two hind legs and four other perseverant pups who don’t let their deafness slow them down on.

When is Puppy Bowl 2024? How to watch?

The Puppy Bowl will take place on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. Central Time. It will be available on Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, Max and discovery+.

Puppy Bowl 20 will begin with the annual pre-game show at noon on Animal Planet, going behind-the-scenes and featuring exclusive interviews with coaches and players. Viewers will also learn more about each player’s breed mix and other unique traits.
