KEY DISCUSSION The Green school board set in motion additional facilities improvements at Monday evening's board meeting.

"We will officially move ahead" on the bus garage auction, said Superintendent Dean Frank in response to a positive vote by the board, noting the building will have to be advertised for a period of time. This is the first step in selling it at a public auction, he said.

The board additionally approved the purchase of new weight room equipment. This purchase was not part of the project encompassing the use of federal ESSER funds for HVAC installation, replacement of doors and lighting and ceiling upgrades in the weight room.

The new equipment is being paid for through fundraising and grants, Frank said, adding the board decided, based on other work being done, it would be a good time to update the equipment. The majority of the money for the purchase of $70,472 has been raised.

Frank said the district hopes the equipment will be in place by August.

The board heard an update on the summer facilities projects.

Asbestos removal in the Wilbur Berkey Fieldhouse is expected to be completed by July 1, and most of the demolition work will be completed by July 5 in preparation for HVAC installation, Frank said. Although work in the mechanical room and lobby will be ongoing, the board office is expected to reopen in the Fieldhouse by July 5.

"We anticipate the project being a little behind schedule because air handlers were on back order," Frank said, but "we project everything being done by the end of September."

Superintendent Frank: 'We will be applying for a grant' for school safety

OTHER DISCUSSION

Suggestions for additional district safety measures have been generated by the safety committee, according to Frank, who noted state money is going to be available to school districts for school safety.

"We will be applying for a grant," Frank said. "One of our priorities is to get cameras in each of the buses to monitor inside the bus as well as outside."

One of the components of the outside monitor will be recording the license plates of cars that disregard the bus warning signals.

Another priority identified by the safety committee is the installation of electric gates leading to the playground, Frank said.
