Purdue basketball recruiting: Kentucky, Ohio prospects scheduled to visit
WEST LAFAYETTE - Once Kentucky offered in-state guard Travis Perry, Purdue didn't know if it would have a chance to host the talented shooter on an official visit.
Perry will be in town this weekend, one of two recruits expected on campus.
Coach Matt Painter offered Perry during an unofficial visit in June but the Boilermakers are far from alone in their pursuit of the 6-foot-2 product from Lyon High School. Kentucky, Bradley, Wake Forest, Missouri, Cincinnati, Iowa and Nebraska are among the other programs showing plenty of interest.
It's still going to be tough for Painter - or any coach not named John Calipari - to secure a commitment from Perry. But at least Purdue is in the game.
The Boilermakers are also expected to host Ohio big man Raleigh Burgess on an unofficial visit this weekend. Purdue is among the programs pursuing the 6-10 Burgess along with Indiana, Wisconsin, Xavier, Ohio State, Dayton, Iowa, Penn State, Cincinnati and Wake Forest.
Burgess averaged 10.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and nearly two blocks per game for Sycamore, which is located near Cincinnati.
Purdue has two in-state commitments in its 2024 recruiting class - Brownstown Central's Jack Benter and Brownsbug's Kanon Catchings.
Kokomo standout Flory Bidunga is considering visiting Purdue this weekend but it's doubtful he'll make the trip.
