Purdue basketball stays No. 1 in AP poll; IU basketball moves up in rankings

What does Indiana basketball's victory over Purdue mean on a national scale? Turns out, not a lot.

The Hoosiers beat Purdue 79-74 on Saturday, prompting fans to storm the court.

However, it didn't prompt big changes in the national polls. The Boilermakers remained No. 1, but not unanimously. In the USA Today poll, they are 15 ranking points ahead of No. 2 Houston. The Cougars, Alabama Tennessee and Texas also received No. 1 votes. In the AP poll, Purdue received 38 first-place votes, and Nos. 2-4 Houston, Alabama and Arizona also received No. 1 votes.

IU moved to No. 18 in both polls, up four spots for USA Today, three for AP. Indiana has won six of its past seven games, though it lost at Maryland last week. The Hoosiers host Rutgers on Tuesday.

Purdue had won nine straight before losing to IU. The Boilermakers host Iowa on Thursday.
