Purdue introduced its new football coach Ryan Walters on Wednesday. The 36-year-old replaces Jeff Brohm, who took the coaching job at his alma mater, Louisville.

Walters, who has been Illinois' defensive coordinator the past two seasons, introduced himself to the Boilermakers on Tuesday. He awarded freshman walk-on running back Devin Mockobee a scholarship.

Athletic director Mike Bobinski and Chairman of Purdue University’s Board of Trustees Michael Berghoff will speak at noon, followed by a news conference at 12:30 p.m.

The AD says the coach has an "authentic personality," noting his "ability to connect with people and relate to people."

Bobinski wasn't specific but said he considered several candidates, and added that Walters has "highest ceiling" of anyone he considered.

On the offense: "There are some things that I know are true about the game of football. I know that the QB position is the most important position in sports, period."

"I grew up with a football attached to my hand."

Grew up around the Colorado program when his father played quarterback. He dreamed of being a quarterback, like his father. He recalls watching Drew Brees playing for Purdue in the Rose Bowl.

"I can still spin it a little bit."

He remains committed to a high-powered offense.
