Purdue Boilermakers run onto the field before the NCAA football game, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind.

FIRST QUARTER

Syracuse 3, Purdue 0 - Andre Szmyt 50 field goal. 9 plays, 59 yards. Elapsed time: 3:22. Time on clock: 5:33. Key plays: Quarterback Garrett Shrader had runs of 7, 6 and 11 yards and the Orange benefited from a pass interference call on cornerback Reese Taylor.

Purdue 6, Syracuse 3 - Devin Mockobee 15 run (kick blocked). 10 plays, 75 yards. Elapsed time: 4:54. Time on the clock: 39 seconds. The walk-on running back scored his first touchdown but Aidan O'Connell was 7-for-7 on the drive. Top target Charlie Jones left the game after landing awkwardly on the ball on a reception.

SECOND QUARTER

Purdue 9, Syracuse 3 - Mitchell Fineran 40 field goal. 10 plays, 67 yards. Elapsed time: 5:05. Time on the clock: 7:54. Key play. Aidan O'Connell continued his pinpoint accuracy, moving the Boilermakers into field goal range. Charlie Jones returned and made a nifty catch on third down for 13 yards.

THIRD QUARTER

Syracuse 10, Purdue 9 - Isaiah Jones 3 pass from Garrett Shrader (Andre Szmytz kick). 17 plays, 84 yards. Elapsed time: 6:39. Time on the clock: 2:11. Key plays: Two penalties prevented the Boilermakers from keeping the Orange out of the end zone. Jack Sullivan was called for a late hit on a third-and-long and Cam Allen was called for defensive holding when O.C. Brothers intercepted Garrett Shrader in the end zone.

FOURTH QUARTER

Purdue 15, Syracuse 10 - Payne Durham 11 pass from Aidan O'Connell (pass failed). 12 plays, 75 yards. Elapsed time: 6:46. Time on the clock: 11:25. Aidan O'Connell's third-down 13-yard pass to Charlie Jones moved the Boilermakers to the 11 and after Dyan Downing was held to no gain, the sixth-year quarterback found his tight end in the back of the end zone. Purdue also benefitted from a pair of Syracuse penalties.

Syracuse 18, Purdue 15 - Oronde Gadsden 46 pass from Garrett Shrader (Shrader run). 6 plays, 75 yards. Elapsed time: 3:08. Time on the clock: 8:17. Key play: The Orange faced 4th-and-1 and Shrader's first option - Sean Tucker - was covered and he found Gadsden across the middle and the Boilermaker defense allowed the sophomore to waltz into the end zone.

Syracuse 25, Purdue 15 - Caleb Okechukwu 17 interception return (Szmyt kick). Time on the clock: 8:08. Key play: Aidan O'Connell was wrapped up and was about to get sacked, but tried to throw the ball away and it ended up in Okechukwu's hands and the defensive end sprinted into the end zone.

Syracuse 25, Purdue 22 - Charlie Jones 55 pass from Aidan O'Connell (Mitchell Fineran kick). 4 plays, 75 yards. Elapsed time: 1:36. Time on the clock: 6:41. Key play: Jones got behind the defender down the sideline and O'Connell threw a perfect pass to the Iowa transfer.

Purdue 29, Syracuse 25 - Payne Durham 12 pass from Aidan O'Connell (Mitchell Fineran kick). 7 plays, 56 yards. Elapsed time: 1:39. Time on the clock: 51 seconds. Penalties on Purdue on two separate defensive plays gave Syracuse 25 additional yards, setting up the game-winning score.
