Purdue sports roundup: Women's basketball falls at Michigan

Michigan used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to create enough separation from the Purdue women's basketball team and post a 79-66 victory on Monday night at Crisler Arena.

The seventh-ranked Wolverines, who defeated the Boilermakers for the third-straight time, opened up a 17-point cushion after scoring nine straight points with 2:45 to play, extending their home winning streak to 11.

Naz Hilllmon was unstoppable inside for Michigan. Hillmon totaled 32 points and 12 rebounds as the Wolverines collected 54 points in the paint. Emily Kiser also posted a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooke Moore had 16 points to lead the Boilermakers, reaching double figures for the fifth-straight game. Madison Layden scored in double figures for the 12th straight game with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Rickie Woltman added 13 points.

Cassidy Hardin has made at least one 3-pointer in 20 consecutive games, the fourth-longest streak in program history.

Purdue returns to action Thursday hosting Minnesota at 7 p.m. in Mackey Arena.

Wrestling

Looking back: The 17th-ranked Boilermakers split a pair of dual matches, defeating Illinois but losing to No. 8 Wisconsin. Devin Schroder (125), Parker Filius (141), Kendall Coleman (157), Hayden Lohrey (167), Gerrit Nijenhuis (171) and Thomas Penola (197) posted wins against the Fighting Illini. Matt Ramos (133), Coleman (157) and Penola (197) were victorious against the Badgers.

Track & Field

Looking back: Four Boilermakers won individual titles at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City. Junior Kerris Roberts was first in the 200 meters (24.19 seconds), sophomore Gage Ernsberger was victorious in the high jump (2.00 meters), sophomore Deborah Obadofin won the triple jump (11.79 meters) and junior Annamaria Leszczynska captured the 400 meters (56.98 seconds)

Looking ahead: Purdue travels to the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington and Indiana Relays in Bloomington on Friday and Saturday.

Swimming & Diving

Looking back: Indiana defeated the Boilermakers in both the men's (170-120) and women's (168-120) events. Tyler Downs won the platform competition (419.48), posting his seventh collegiate victory. Hannah Hill won the 50 free (23.30).

Looking ahead: The men's team heads to Minnesota to compete against the Gophers and Northwestern at the Big Ten Triple Duals. The women's team will host Illinois on Saturday at 11 a.m. for Senior Day.

Tennis

Looking back: The women's team swept Xavier 7-0 to improve to 3-0. The men's team fell to 0-4 following a 6-1 setback at Wichita State.

Looking ahead: The men's team plays host Chicago State (3 p.m.) and IUPUI (6 p.m.) on Saturday. The women's team entertains Bowling Green on Saturday (noon).
