Purdy's celebrates 10 years

May 31—Purdy's Coffee celebrated its 10 year anniversary with a special Spring Market on Saturday morning.

Their downtown location was transformed into a craft market, which was busy with shoppers last weekend.

On top of the vendors, which included Apparitions, Raising Arrows, A Green Daisy, BE Leather, Made by Madison, Designs with J&J, Flax and Wool, Emily Fritz, Nature from Scratch, and the Shady Grove Collective, the coffee shop also took part in their Mugs of Hope charity.

Vintage mugs were sold for $10 a piece, or $15 for a mug with a bouquet of flowers, and all proceeds went to help Richmond's Pregnancy Help Center.

"I think it provides people a way to shop. These people who they may not know even exist, or just like goods that they can't just go and find at like a Wal Mart or something," Purdy's shift lead manager Haley Smith said of the appeal of the market.

It is a wildly different scene from what the downtown location would have looked like six months ago, as it fully reopened after a long hiatus due to COVID-19 in January. Smith said she enjoys working at both locations.

"Both have great things. Here (downtown) you have the customers that sit and stay for awhile. And you get to be one on one with another co-worker, but it's fun to be at Big Hill too because you get your full — like, 'Here's eight of you' shift working all day long. You're more of a team." Smith said. "We're grateful. We're celebrating 10 years of Purdy's, but it wouldn't be possible without the customers. We always say there would be no us without you all because you all make us what we are."
