Good morning, Sherry Coolidge here to help you start your week.

I'm in the midst of covering my 10th city of Cincinnati budget – or as I like to think about it, how your money is being spent. People who live and work in the city provide the bulk of the operating budget revenue through earnings tax, so it really is your money.

Fiscal year 2024's operating budget is the highest I've seen in my time covering the city, even adjusted for inflation.

In my story today, I explain the broad outline of spending, plus share what we know about the $11 million in programs and projects Mayor Aftab Pureval hopes to include in the budget. Those include a trio of firsts for the budget: a basic income pilot program, savings accounts for children and medical debt relief.

We'll hear more today at council's Budget and Finance Committee meeting. Want to share your thoughts? There's a 5:30 p.m. budget hearing at City Hall tonight. See you there.
