A California man out on bond after he was arrested last month in Victorville for a high-speed chase with a U-Haul trailer was arrested on Friday after another chase from law enforcement, this time in Texas.

Sheriff’s officials reported that the vehicle pursuit started at 11:33 a.m. on Friday when deputies tried to stop a vehicle towing a trailer at Interstate 20 and County Road 431, located north of Tyler, Texas.

The driver of the blue Ford pickup, later identified as Rick J. Dixon, was towing a trailer that had been reported stolen, Smith County (Texas) Sheriff’s spokesman Larry Christian said.

The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit began, which exceeded speeds of 100 mph, Christian said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit, which went east into Kilgore, Texas. The vehicle and trailer were spiked various times during the pursuit.

The Kilgore Police Department reported on Facebook that the pursuit looked like a scene out of “The Blues Brothers” — a 1980 film that featured a series of spectacular police car chases — as police followed the stolen vehicle pulling a U-Haul trailer.

“We are still unclear just exactly where the pursuit started, but it wasn’t ours,” Kilgore Police posted. “We did attempt to set spike strips and blocked intersections. We do know the California driver had a trailer full of marijuana.”

The vehicle ran numerous stop lights as it went through Kilgore. Eventually, the car tried to make a U-turn on Highway 259 just south of I-20 when it was cornered by law enforcement, Christian said.

Dixon was taken into custody at 12:10 p.m., according to Christian, who said the suspect would be charged with suspicion of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and possessing stolen property. More charges are likely to follow.

News station KLTV in Texas notified the Daily Press about the incident that involved the pursuit and Dixon’s arrest.

Barstow to Victorville pursuit

In the earlier High Desert incident, SBC Sheriff’s officials reported that at 7:09 a.m. on Oct. 16, Barstow Police officers tried to contact the driver of a white Dodge Ram pickup truck with an attached U-Haul trailer that was stolen, according to the Daily Press.

The truck driver was later identified as the 61-year-old Dixon of North Fork, about 25 miles north of Fresno.

Dixon ignored officers and led them on a vehicle pursuit through the streets of Barstow. At one point, he disconnected the trailer and continued to flee.

The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit on I-15, where Dixon drove erratically and drove more than 100 mph.

He also made several U-turns and drove in the opposite direction of traffic, sheriff’s officials said.

Driving south, Dixon exited the freeway and made his way onto Quarry Road north of Victorville, where CHP officers deployed spike strips.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Department’s Specialized Enforcement Division joined the pursuit and fired two shots at the truck’s engine block to disable the vehicle.

The truck collided with a curb at the I-15 E Street on-ramp in Victorville. The truck became disabled, and Dixon was taken into custody without further incident.

Dixon was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, with bail set at $100,000. He was released on Oct. 22 after posting bond.
