In an interview with infamous journalist Tucker Carlson, the Russian president Vladimir Putin has claimed to supposedly desire "to achieve a resolution to the situation in Ukraine through negotiations."

Details: Putin stated that he supposedly wants to resolve the situation in Ukraine through negotiations.

Quote: "They (the negotiations – ed.) reached a very advanced stage of agreement in a complex process [in Istanbul in 2022 – ed.], and they were almost completed.

But after we withdrew our troops from Kyiv, the other side rejected all these agreements and submitted to the instructions of Western countries, European countries, and the USA to fight against Russia to the end.

Additionally, the President of Ukraine legislatively prohibited negotiations with Russia. He signed a decree prohibiting everyone from negotiating with Russia.

"We know that he (the President of Ukraine – ed.) puts forward some ideas regarding this settlement, but to reach an agreement, dialogue is needed. Isn't that so?"

Details: Putin said Ukraine is now putting forward conditions Russia cannot agree to.

It is worth noting that Putin began the interview with a long lecture on fake history, making manipulative statements about Ukraine's sovereignty and distorting historical interpretations of Ukrainian statehood.

Note: Tucker Carlson was the host of the Tucker Carlson Tonight programme on Fox News from 2016 to 2023, but last April, he was fired without an official explanation from his employer.

CNN noted that Carlson was "a top promoter of conspiracy theories and radical rhetoric" at the channel.

Background: Members of the European Parliament have called for the imposition of entry bans to the EU against Carlson due to his interview with Putin.

Previously:

  • Carlson announced his interview with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, for which he travelled to Moscow. He stated that he requested an interview with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well.

  • In November, former US President Donald Trump said that he was considering Carlson as a potential running mate and vice president.
