North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un received an Aurus Senat, a luxury car known as the "Russian limousine," from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin after their recent meeting, Kim Jong Un's entourage confirmed, Associated Press reported on Feb. 20.

Sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council on North Korea include a ban on the export of foreign cars, including the Aurus Senat. Despite Russia being a member of the UN Security Council, this did not deter Putin from presenting such a gift. Putin had previously showcased the car during a summit in Russia in September, and Kim Jong Un apparently expressed admiration for it, leading to him receiving the Aurus.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed this, stating that Putin gave the gift to Kim Jong Un after the North Korean leader expressed his interest in the car. Putin emphasized the friendship between Russia and North Korea.

Despite the clear violation of sanctions and criticism from the international community, the Russian leader continues to strengthen ties with North Korea. This gesture raises concerns among other UN Security Council member states, especially regarding allegations that North Korea is supplying weapons to Russia for use in its invasion of Ukraine.

The growing rapport between the two dictatorships also raises concerns about global nuclear security. The Pyongyang regime, usually restrained by China, is considered unpredictable, and its alignment with Russia, which consistently threatens with nuclear weapons, could alter the situation, the CNN said on Feb. 20.

Regarding the gift itself, the Aurus Senat appears to be of lesser value than the missiles that Putin received from Kim Jong Un. Reviews of this car are scarce due to its limited availability — a new car costs about 36 million rubles ($389,000), and production is limited to only a few dozen units per year. However, a lucky owner who managed to obtain this exclusive vehicle shared insights.

“The Aurus Senat is not just a means of transportation for everyday travel,” the owner said.

“It symbolizes your significance – the acquisition of a truly unique car! 'Senats' are sparingly utilized, often finding shelter under the roof of a warm garage. I, too, take mine out for solitary drives, allowing the car to stretch its joints. During these walks, numerous assembly flaws were noticed (primarily uneven body gaps). Under certain lighting conditions, the bumpers even appear to differ slightly in color from the body.”

The owner is primarily concerned about the mediocre ride smoothness. In his opinion, the car offers a fairly bumpy ride to passengers' backsides.

The primary issue lies with the media system, deemed ‘absolutely unsuitable for a modern person,’ said the owner. Indeed, the main device cannot be connected via any protocol, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Yandex.Auto. The “multimedia” being closed to third-party access was allegedly a mandatory requirement from the “Special Purpose Garage,” the rumors said.

The Aurus Senat’s reviews reveal complaints regarding the absence of electronic assistants like parking sensors and adaptive cruise control. Installing these features were deemed impossible due to the hydraulic booster used in the steering, preventing the coexistence of driver assistants. Owners also report problems with the transmission.
