More than 13,000 PWC customers from north Ramsey Street to as far south as the Fayetteville Regional Airport were without power Friday evening as a thunderstorm moved through the area knocking down trees and at least one power line in the city.

PWC's outage map shows the outage also reaches Rim and Cliffdale roads to the west and along Cedar Creek Road to the east.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, a utility pole broke in the area of Cliffdale Road and Chason Ridge Drive, downing powerlines about 7:30 p.m. The downed line coincides with the time PWC reported 12,500 customers were without power and forced the closure of Skibo Road between Cliffdale Road and Chason Ridge Drive. Motorists should find an alternate route. Police said the outage is also affecting traffic signals. Drivers are advised to treat uncontrolled intersections as four-way stops.

As of 9:15 p.m., the PWC outage map indicated crews were still assessing the issue. An estimate of when power will be restored was not immediately available.
