Qantas Is Hiding First Class Seats As $20 'Cabins in the Clouds' on Airbnb

First class seats are the thing of travel dreams. Being able to get on a plane and actually get comfortable for a flight is something most people can only dream of — but Qantas is making the dream a little more attainable by hiding first class seats on Airbnb.

Over the next two weeks the airline will release several discounted first class tickets listed as accommodations on Airbnb. Would-be fliers need to find the $20 listings associated with the registered host name “Qantas Frequent Flyer” and they could score a seat for a discounted number of frequent flier miles.

As Business Insider explained, the listings come with names “Cosy cabin nestled between the clouds” and “Premium one bedroom suite at 35,000 feet.”

The listings describe the accommodations in the sky as “Stylish, well-appointed, one bedroom suite with unparalleled views of the clouds. Expansive, comfortable lounge complete with sommelier and chef. Seamless check in service.” Of course, there are the normal Airbnb restrictions like “no pets” and “no parties” just for good measure.

“Some of our members fly with us more than 100 times a year so it can certainly feel like they’re living on one of our planes, eating, sleeping and working at 35,000 feet,” Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth said in a statement. “Our business and first class suites have all the hallmarks of a typical Airbnb house with comfortable beds, movies, quality cooked meals and experienced friendly hosts.”

The airline didn’t reveal just how many tickets it would release with the promotion, but did tell Business Insider there will be “dozens of flights across the Qantas International network including London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Santiago, and more.”

And, best of all, you won’t have to travel alone as there will be listings for seats in both pairs and in groups of four.

There is an obvious catch: The seats will only be available to Qantas Frequent Flyer members, as you’ll need to secure the booking using Qantas Points. Here's more information on the program.

If you find one of the listings, you'll go through the regular Airbnb process of “request to book,” then pay a $20 holding fee. You’ll then be contacted by Qantas to confirm your member number. The flights will cost 50,000 Qantas Points, which could mean up to a 50-percent discount on normal fares.
