Qatar U20s vs Nigeria U20s: TV channel, live stream, squad news & preview

Nigeria take on Qatar in the first group match of this year's Under-20 World Cup in Poland.

The Flying Eagles are making their 12th appearance in this competition after a fourth place finish at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Qatar are making a return to the championship after missing the last two editions, and are competing to better their second place finish at the 1981 edition.

Both teams are meeting for the first ever and victory for either side would boost their chances of reaching the knockout phase.

Nigeria and Qatar go neck to neck as they hope for a flying start in the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup.

The clash billed for the Tychy Stadium, Tychy will be the first-ever meeting between the nations in a competitive match, and with the Flying Eagles eyeing the top prize, only victory will bring about the sense of belief needed to actualise this ambition.

They will also look to become the second African team to win a match at this year’s edition.

Just like the Flying Eagles, Qatar reached this competition as Asia’s fourth-best team – and a good showing is expected from Bruno Pinheiro’s boys as anything short of victory will spell doom in their chase for the title.

Coach Paul Aigbogun is wary of threats posed by the Asians, however, he is sure of the blend of quality in his side.

“We are here to do our best and to make Nigeria proud. No team is a small team anymore and Qatar are not any different. We want to do our best and come out of the group.

Our immediate aim is to win our first game and take it up from there. We have a few lads in the team that are new because we made a few changes to the team that played the African qualifiers. These players will hopefully add quality to the team.”

The key man for Nigeria will be Manchester City’s Tom Dele-Bashiru, who will need to justify why he has been rated by Fifa as one of the ten stars towatch out for.
