QB Deshaun Watson to report to Texans training camp to avoid $50K per day fine

One of the first big training camp storylines is starting to get more pages written in the script.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson will report to the Houston Texans for training camp. In doing so, Watson avoids the $50,000 per day fine for missing camp. However, the former 2017 first-round pick is still adamant with his trade demand, which was requested in early January.

The ball is also now in the court of the NFL as they have Watson under investigation regarding his involvement as a defendant in a lawsuit alleging he sexually assaulted 22 women.

On June 14 in an interview with “Payne & Pendergast” on Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM], general manager Nick Caserio said the club would make decisions with regards to Watson as they got more information on the situation.

“I don’t really have any additional comments about anything,” said Caserio. “I think we’re respectful of what’s happening. We’re respectful of the process and everybody that’s involved. So, again, the most important thing is for all of us — coaches, players, myself included is to focus on the things that we can control, and as we get more information, as we get closer to training camp, then we’ll try to make the best decision for the Houston Texans, whatever that entails.”

Watson reporting for camp is a big piece of information for the Texans. The onus is now on Caserio and first-year coach David Culley to make the best decision for the team.
