QB Zach Smith will have rookie tryout with Bills
The Bills are continuing to do their due diligence on backup quarterback options the offseason.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, former Tulsa quarterback Zach Smith will have a rookie minicamp tryout with the Bills.
Smith, a 6-foot-3 signal caller completed 56 percent of his passes last season for 1,947 yards in nine games played. The senior also had 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Prior to playing at Tulsa, Smith spent his first two years of eligibility at Baylor. Per NFL rules this offseason, the Bills are limited to allowing five players at rookie minicamps for tryouts.
Earlier this offseason, Buffalo let free agent Matt Barkley walk and replaced him with former Bears quarterback, Mitchell Trubisky, as Josh Allen’s main backup. The Bills also have former fifth-round pick Jake Fromm and Davis Webb on their roster.
