QC Engineering and Science Council awards STEM scholarships

The Quad-City Engineering and Science Council, or QCESC, held the 62nd  annual STEM Celebration on Feb. 22, a news release says.

The event celebrates and showcases the region’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) professionals, educators, and the next generation of STEM professionals.

At the event, held during National Engineers Week, 17 scholarships valued at $31,500 were awarded. This was the 31st year that the QCESC has awarded STEM scholarships to encourage students to pursue STEM careers. Including this year, 244 scholarships have been awarded valued at over $410,000.

Scholarship winners include:

  • Kinley Anderson, Sherrard High School – $1,000, St Ambrose University

  • David Moreno, United Township High School – $1,000, Augustana College

  • Henry Oberg, Sterling High School – $1,000, Augustana College

  • Isabelle Pierce, Central DeWitt High School – $2,000, University of Iowa

  • Phenix Holcomb, Rockridge High School – $1,000, Morrison Tech

  • Kaitlyn Greenwood, Orion High School – $2,500, University of Wisconsin – Platteville

  • Landon Schroeder, Central DeWitt High School – $2,500, American Society of Civil Engineers

  • Ethan Monson, Mercer County High School – $2,500, American Society of Civil Engineers

  • Cameron McDonnell, Morrison High School – $2,500, American Society of Civil Engineers

  • Jacob Tegeler, Northeast Community High School – $2,500, National Defense Industrial Association

  • Ian Smiddy, Riverdale High School, $2000 – Constellation Corporation

  • Landon Whelchel, Amboy High School – $2,000, Society of American Military Engineers

  • Alaina Heim, Riverdale High School – $1,500, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers

  • Joseph Magee, Alleman Catholic High School – $1,500, IEEE Iowa Illinois Section

  • Garrett Polson, Sterling High School – $1,000, Quad City Engineering and Science Council Community College

  • Molly Albrecht, Pleasant Valley High School – $2,500, Quad City Engineering and Science Council

  • Shivam Patel, Pleasant Valley High School – $2,500 Jeffrey Richland Memorial Scholarship

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council (QCESC) is an umbrella organization representing ~25 technical societies totaling about 3,500 members here in the Quad Cities. The QCESC proudly sponsors annual events such as the National Engineers STEM Celebration, STEM Scholarships and Professional Awards. We also provide judges for the local technical activities including FIRST LEGO League as well as other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)-related activities.
