The Quad offers independence, hands-on learning to adults with cognitive disabilities

An enrichment center dedicated to promoting independence and hands-on learning for adults with cognitive disabilities has opened in Lafayette.

The Quad, at 1021 E. St. Mary near the Oil Center, is a first-of-its-kind in Lafayette. Owner Caroline Jurisich understands the needs of people with cognitive disabilities through work with the largest inclusive postsecondary education program in the state of Louisiana.

Jurisich noticed a gap in opportunities and services for people after they transitioned out of school and a need for a program that supports adults and families to meet the needs of individuals striving to lead independent and fulfilling lives beyond the educational system.

"At The Quad, we are dedicated to creating an environment that promotes inclusion and celebrates the diverse abilities of every individual," she said. "Through our membership model, our valued members will have full access to all our enriching services and enjoy the vibrant and invigorating space we have created."

Services offered through membership or individual packages range from learning financial literacy, writing a resume, cooking a meal at home to building relationship skills and independent thinking skills. Members gain access to inclusive group learning sessions, the exclusive Quad clubhouse, special Open Door Fridays at the clubhouse, exciting social events and engaging community service projects. Individual packaging is limited to weekly sessions access only.

The Quad also has student packages, which offer an after-school program for high school and college students who are 18 and older that provides access to the Clubhouse, group activities, lessons and cooking demonstrations.

"We are here to provide comprehensive services to adults with cognitive disabilities," Jurisich said. "It is our goal to provide the individualized supports an adult may need to meaningfully live, work, and contribute to our area."

Through group sessions, workshops, social events, community projects and partnerships, The Quad is embedded in building members' social lives, work lives and independent living abilities.

"We look forward to joining hands with the Lafayette community in promoting inclusivity, empowerment, and boundless possibilities for adults with cognitive disabilities at The Quad," Jurisich said.To learn more about The Quad and its services, visit the website at thequadusa.com or call (337) 999-QUAD.
