WASHINGTON — For the second time in program history, the Quaker Valley Quakers' boys tennis team claimed a back-to-back WPIAL Class 2A team title Wednesday at the Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Washington & Jefferson College.

Quaker Valley defeated North Catholic by a score of 3-2, repeating as WPIAL champs while also keeping the Trojans from becoming the first team in 2A dating back to 2018 to sweep the singles, doubles and team titles in the same season, a feat Sewickley Academy last accomplished.

Against the Trojans Wednesday, the Quakers were able to get the job done thanks in large part to a monumental comeback from Will Sirianni in his singles match against Brody Golla. Sirianni won five straight sets to bounce back from a 4-1 deficit to win 7-5, providing the margin of victory in the 3-2 match for the Quakers, who repeated as WPIAL champs for the second time in program history, the last occurring in 2002 and 2003.

Along with Sirianni's big comeback that provided the spark, Quaker Valley’s top doubles pairing of Henry Veeck and Justin Hajdukiewicz picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over North Catholic's Justin Kontul and Ken Canavan to put the Trojans behind 1-0.

Following a singles loss by Mike Sirianni to North Catholic's Nicolas Scheller by a score of 6-0 and 6-1, Quaker Valley's No. 2 doubles pairing of Michael Lipton and Chris Menkel won their match over North Catholic, putting the Quakers on the brink of a repeat team title.

Prior to reaching the WPIAL Class 2A finals, Quaker Valley defeated Central Valley by a score of 5-0 on Monday at Sewickley Academy, while North Catholic defeated Mars by a score of 4-1 at Pine-Richland. Central Valley qualified for the state tournament thanks to a 3-2 win over Mars Wednesday at Sewickley Academy's Nichols Courts.
