Do you qualify for federal wildfire relief assistance? It depends on where you are from

As major wildfires continue to burn in California, confusion is also spreading online over the type of federal assistance being offered to survivors of the recent disasters. "There are two kinds of federal disaster designations in place," clarified Mark Ghilarducci, director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. "One provides for additional resources to support response operations, which is what the White House approved last week for the Caldor Fire ... the other declaration, which is what we have in place for Dixie and River Fire, provides individual assistance as well as recovery resources for government entities," he said.
