Bartlesville High School's girls' golf team rang up a lot of positive vibes during its season opener earlier this week.

Led by three veterans that broke 90, Bartlesville assembled a team score of 361 to finish fifth at the Ponca City tournament.

The result felt especially pleasing due to presence of many of the Class 6A rivals Bartlesville will have to beat at next month's regionals in order to leapfrog into the state tournament.

Taylor Price produced 85 to pace the Lady Bruins, who are coached by Carl Holmes.

Emilyn Rainbolt and Layne Harmon both tallied 88, followed by Vivian Symes with 99 to round out the contributors to the team score. Rounding out the varsity were Evie Vaclaw and Adrianna Flick with 103 and 106, respectively.

Two other Bartlesville girls that participated, but not as official members of the team, were Emily Staats (113) and Maklayan Farris (120).

"I was overly pleased with the teams that were there," Holmes said, noting this same course will be the Class 6A regional site. "It was a good day to be with and see the other teams. … I was overall pleased with what we did."

The Lady Bruins had to endure rain, and a blustery wind that reach 30-to-40 miles per hour, all round.

"The conditions were brutal," Holmes said. "I was proud to get the number we got, especially with a new identity as a team."
