Quarantined Olympic skateboarder Candy Jacobs calls lack of fresh air 'inhuman'

Quarantined Olympic skateboarder Candy Jacobs is sick of being stuck in her hotel room. Jacobs — who is in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 — explained the struggles of being stuck in a room where she has no access to fresh air.

Jacobs filmed a three-minute video in which she talked about her situation. Jacobs, who has been quarantined for eight days, said she had to protest for eight hours to receive 15 minutes of supervised time in front of an open window so she could breathe fresh air.

Jacobs explained her hotel room does not feature any windows that open. She discussed how it felt to finally get some fresh air, calling it "the saddest and best moment of my life."

Jacobs also talked about the mental toll of her situation.

"This ride has been the wildest I've ever been on, and I hopefully never have to go through something like this again. Cause this is hard, man. Not having any outside air is so inhuman. And it is, mentally, super draining."

She went on to say not only were her dreams shattered, but that it's tough to be alone for that long.

Candy Jacobs will miss Olympics due to COVID-19

Jacobs was slated to take part in the women's street contest before testing positive for COVID-19. Jacobs announced her positive test July 21, knocking her out of the Olympics. She said she was "heartbroken," but added she was glad her "fellow skateboarders still get the shine bright."

Jacobs, who is Dutch, watched the street competition from her hotel room. She praised all three medal winners, saying "that's the future, and the future is looking so bright."
