The Queen 'can't stand' this particular habit of Kate and William

While for most of us the kitchen is the hub of our home, a place where we make our favourite dishes while catching up with friends, or down our pre-drinks while the taxi waiting outside beeps its horn. But, as it turns out, Her Majesty the Queen isn't so fond of spending too much time in the kitchen – in fact, it's a habit of the Cambridge family's that she really "can't stand."

As we all know, Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children split their time between their two homes, Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall, which is located on the Queen's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Anmer Hall was a gift from the 95-year-old Monarch to the couple when they married in 2011, but she didn't actually visit them at their new home until several years after that.

According to a royal source, who spoke to the Express, when the Queen eventually did visit the Cambridge's at Anmer Hall home for the first time in 2018, she was reportedly shocked by how much time they spent together in the kitchen. "When the Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Anmer Hall for the first time, she couldn’t get her head around the fact that the kitchen is the main base for them," the insider claimed.

"For the Queen, she can't stand that, because she is used to having a set room for that sort of thing," the source added. "The kitchen she never goes down to when she’s at Balmoral, for instance. In her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work."

Perhaps one of the reasons the Cambridges opt to spend more time in the kitchen is because they have far less staff than Her Majesty, with the insider pointing out that: "They don’t have the same level of staff as Prince Charles or the Queen."

A smaller staff doesn't necessarily mean a small home though, with both Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall being, quite literally, fit for a king. Prior to moving into their Norfolk base, the 10-bedroom Georgian mansion underwent a £1.5 million renovation, while their 'apartment' in Kensington Palace is equally as grand, with over 20 rooms spread across four floors. How impressive.

But, the Cambridges might soon be saying farewell to Anmer Hall, with recent talk that they'll be relocating to Windsor to be closer to the Queen. We wonder what the kitchen will be like there...
