Queen Elizabeth Just Passed the Torch to Kate Middleton for a Major Royal Patronage

Kate Middleton is taking on an all-new role, and it holds a special place in Queen Elizabeth’s heart.

Yesterday, Buckingham Palace announced that the Duchess of Cambridge, 37, is now an official patron of the U.K. charity Family Action. Middleton will assist the organization in providing support for families, who are affected by mental health issues, financial burdens and more.

If the new gig sounds familiar, it’s probably because Queen Elizabeth was a patron of the same organization for 65 years. Since Middleton is a dedicated philanthropist, it was only a matter of time before she took over for the monarch.

Earlier today, Middleton attended her first event as a royal patron of Family Action. The duchess visited the Peterley Manor Farm in Buckinghamshire, England, where she surprised a group of children.

While there, she engaged in a series of holiday-inspired activities, like making crafts and drinking hot chocolate. Middleton wore her go-to puffer jacket by Perfect Moment, which she paired with a green sweater, jeans and brown boots. (While the red coat is currently out of stock, you can still get your hands on the black version.)

“Family Action is honored that The Duchess of Cambridge has become our Royal Patron,” David Holmes, the chief executive of Family Action, said in a statement. “Everyone at Family Action would like to extend our thanks to Her Majesty for her steadfast support and encouragement to us over so many years. I have seen The Duchess’s passionate support for disadvantaged families first-hand and have been impressed by her leadership in understanding and promoting the vital importance of the Early Years. Family Action looks forward to working with The Duchess in the years to come.”

More royal engagements? You won’t see us complaining.
