A CBD-infused energy drink has been “flying off the shelves” at the Queen’s farm shop due to people buying them in bulk.

The drink, made by Trip, is made using the compound cannabidiol (CBD), which is predominantly found in the buds and flowers of the hemp plant and is legal in the UK.

To be clear, CBD cannot get you high. Those effects are down to a different component of the cannabis plant called Tetrahydrocannabinol, aka THC.

Instead, it is claimed that CBD can help balance the body and mind, regulating everything from anxiety and mood. It can also boost concentration, reduce inflammation, and aid sleep through relaxation.

The drink’s popularity at Her Majesty’s Windsor Farm Shop was originally reported by The Sun, where a source said: “The drinks are quite quirky but very unusual for a farm shop – especially one run by The Queen.

"They are selling out quick. People pick up about seven or eight each time. The shop started stocking them a few months ago and they’ve been really popular."

Today, Olivia Ferdi, co-founder of the CBD drinks brand, told The Independent that Trip’s drinks have indeed proved a sought-after choice at the store, confirming that the beverages are currently sold out.

“We're thrilled to see the continued popularity of Trip helping people find calm in these tricky times,” she said.

“Right now, people want to take the edge off,” Ferdi previously told The Independent in our round-up of the best CBD infused drinks. “What CBD does is help balance any excess stress or tension you might be feeling. It is a molecule that interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the body which regulates and balances many processes.”

So, if you’re feeling stressed or having trouble sleeping, could Trip’s drinks be the answer? Here we put the sparkling beverage to the test.

Landing a spot in our review of the best CBD drinks, our reviewer said: "Launched in 2019, Trip was created when the co-founder Olivia Ferdi’s husband Dan underwent knee surgery just before their wedding. Upon finding CBD, the oil helped him make it to the dance floor and the couple set about making a CBD product that fits into people’s everyday lives, minus that intensely bitter taste. Intended to balance functionality with flavour, the range uses no added sugar, is vegan-friendly, gluten-free, low calorie, and is enhanced with adaptogens to support immunity, focus and stress-relief.”

Explaining the brand’s range, they said: “There’s three CBD-infused drinks – including a lightly sparkling peach ginger and a cold brew coffee, for ‘jitter-free energy’ – as well as two flavoured CBD oils.”

So what was their verdict? "We most enjoyed the sparkling elderflower mint drink, with its cooling, refreshing taste. Alongside 15mg of CBD derived from UK-grown organic hemp per can, it also contains l-theanine said to aid relaxation, lemon balm and ginseng for focus, and rooibos for digestion.”
