‘Queer As Folk’ Reboot Canceled After One Season At Peacock

Peacock has canceled its new iteration of Queer as Folk after just one season.

From Stephen Dunn, the reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies, which was previously set in Manchester from 1999-2000 and Pittsburgh on Showtime from 2000-2005, moved over to New Orleans for a new run on Peacock.

This new version explored “a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.” The series’ stars included Devin Way, Johnny Sibilly, CG, Jesse James Keitel, Fin Argus, Ryan O’Connell, Kim Catrall, Juliette Lewis and more.

O’Connell, who also was a writer on the series, said in a June 2022 interview S&A did with the cast:

“It’s very rare that a reboot can justify its existence beyond a cash grab. And I feel like with Queer as Folk, it’s been 22 years, and a lot has changed in terms of what it means to be queer and the representation that’s out there. There is a lot of queerness in TV shows, but it’s very rare to get an all queer cast.”

He continued, “It’s also a show that doesn’t explain queerness. We don’t explain things to straight people, we don’t hold their hand– so I think that was just a really important and a kind of rare creative opportunity to really kind of play in such a queer sandbox.”
