Queer-Inclusive 'Willow' Canceled After Just One Season On Disney+

Despite receiving significant praise from fans, Disney+’s Willow series isn’t returning for a second season.
The Willow television series, which premiered in November 2022 on Disney+, served as a sequel to the 1988 fantasy film of the same name. The show featured actors like Warwick Davis, Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, and Tony Revolori in the cast, and was heavily praised for the inclusion of a queer romance between Princess Kit (Cruz) and Jade (Kellyman).
Alas, Variety reported on Wednesday, March 15 that Disney+ did not pick up Willow for a second season. This update comes to the surface two months after the show aired its season one finale.
Critics had generally favorable reviews of Willow, with the show averaging an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes. With an eight-part first season, there was still a lot of room for this universe and character to be explored… but that is no longer happening following this cancelation.
This is yet another queer-inclusive series getting canceled after just one season. LGBTQ+ fans have been dealing with a lot of cancelations of this kind in recent years, which has been pretty upsetting for the community.
