We know you have questions about Mile of Music 9. We have answers. Let's get started.
Where can I find the Mile of Music schedule?
The schedule is on the Mile of Music website but you'll want to consider downloading the Mile of Music app for the most convenient updates. Keep in mind that the schedule is subject to change, so check it frequently.
Is Mile of Music really free?
Yup, the music is free everywhere. No need for a ticket. No cover charges. You're on your own to pay for beverages, of course.
For $150, though, you can become a Mile of Music Music-Maker. It gets you access to the exclusive First Songs Kickoff Concert on Wednesday night at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, plus merchandise, two exclusive showcases, priority access to selected performances and access to a Music-Makers lounge at the festival headquarters.
What kind of music should I expect at Mile of Music?
The focus is on roots music, but that's a wide spectrum. You'll find lots of indie-rock, folk-rock and soul, but you'll also find country-rock, bluegrass and hip hop. There are solo acoustic artists and jam bands and every size of act in between.
The main thing about the music at Mile of Music is that it's all original music. Cover bands can be terrific, but that's not what Mile is about.
What's changed this year from last year's Mile of Music?
There were more outdoor shows at last year's festival because of COVID conditions, but outdoor shows still will be a centerpiece of this year's festival. Fifteen of the 40 venues are outdoor, including several new locations.
Houdini Plaza was solely for acoustic shows last year, but it's back as a main stage, with the Lawrence University lawn added as a main stage.
At some inside venues, there'll be an added emphasis on "listening rooms," where the audience will be asked not to talk during the performances, to focus on the music.
Is Cory Chisel performing this year at Mile of Music?
Yes! After having to drop out of last year's Mile as he was dealing with a health condition, the Mile of Music co-founder and Appleton native will be the Jones Park headliner at 7:30 p.m. Friday and will host "A Song Before We Go," Mile's traditional end-of-festival showcase, at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Memorial Chapel.
Can I bring the kids to Mile of Music?
Yup, about half of Mile of Music's 40 locations are considered all-ages venues.
Can I volunteer at Mile of Music?
Yes, festival organizers are still looking for volunteers for this week's event. You can see what openings remain on the volunteer signup page.
What's the weather forecast for Mile of Music?

But like the Mile of Music schedule, the weather is certainly subject to change.
