Liquor license approved for Cracker Barrel

You might soon get to order a mimosa with your Country Boy Breakfast at the local Cracker Barrel.

The Washington County Board of License Commissioners recently gave conditional approval for a Class B restaurant beer, wine and liquor license for the restaurant on Col. Henry K. Douglas Drive near the Premium Outlets.

Attorney Linda Carter, representing the restaurant, told the board that service of alcohol at the restaurant is "merely an accommodation" to customers, and that if the restaurant hits 5% alcohol sales "it will be extraordinary."

The restaurant could offer beer, wine, mimosas, bloody Marys and "hard lemonade," she said.

The license was approved contingent on completion of documentation.

The board also approved the transfer of a Class D beer, wine and liquor license from Frank Papa for the Corner Grill at 503 Jefferson St. in Hagerstown to Diane Kline, Michelle Mummert and Stacy Gladhill to operate the Jefferson Pub at the same address, and the transfer of a Class A beer, wine and liquor license from Donald Burnett, Robin Burnett and Ashley Burnett for Potomac Discount Liquors at 187 East Main St., Hancock, to Rajubhai Patel to operate Potomac Liquors at the same address, pending completion of final documents.

Cannon Coffee recognized by PETA

A whole latte love is heading to locally based Cannon Coffee, winner of PETA’s Compassionate Coffee Shop Award. Cannon has earned this national honor for its decision to stop charging extra for vegan milks—a move that helps prevent day-old calves from being torn away from their mothers in the dairy industry, a top producer of greenhouse gases. Cannon, which belongs to a growing list of businesses that don’t charge extra for vegan milks, will receive a framed certificate and a letter from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.

“By dropping the upcharge for delicious oat and macadamia milks, Cannon Coffee makes it easier for customers to leave mother cows and their calves in peace,” says PETA Senior Director Danielle Katz.
