Quick Hits: 85-game losing streak snapped, Britt again goes off in Gaston Day win

It had been a while since West Lincoln had experienced that “winning feeling.”

After four long years, the Rebels were back in the winner’s circle on Tuesday, this after they claimed victory at Fred T. Foard courtesy of a 69-58 win.

Holiday Hopper finished with 28 points, seven blocks and six steals, while Jordan Truesdale added 16 points and four steals. Amine Cherigul had eight points and seven rebounds.

The victory ended an 85-game losing streak for West Lincoln. Prior to Tuesday, the Rebels’ last win came on Nov. 17, 2017, when it defeated East Burke, 50-47.

Boys basketball

Bessemer City 59, North Gaston 56: Keyshawn Adams finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, Randall Pettus had 17 points while Jameer Holmes added 14 as Bessemer City got past North Gaston.

Forestview 67, East Gaston 54: Christian Williams and Nate Aguilar each had 13 points, while Antwan Corbin (11 points) and Daris Byers (10 points) also scored in double figures as Forestview earned its first win of the season.

Gaston Day 78, Concord Academy 76 (F/OT): Chris Britt led all scorers with 33 points, Callum Richard followed with 21 and Evan Montanari added 17 as Gaston Day claimed an overtime victory.

Highland Tech 60, East Rutherford 52: Kevin Foster led with 19 points, Isaiah Moore had 10 and Elijah Sherrill added eight as the Rams earned their first win of the season.

North Lincoln 64, Bunker Hill 52

Polk County 56, Piedmont Community Charter 49

Providence Day 74, Lincoln Charter 48: Down by three at halftime, a 24-4 spurt by Providence Charter in the third put the game out of reach.

South Point 49, Lincolnton 44: Tyler Woloson's 12 points and eight rebounds helped South Point claim victory in its season debut at Lincolnton. Jacob McGill led Lincolnton with 12 points, with D.J. Danner adding 10.

Girls basketball

Bessemer City 61, North Gaston 35: Tionna Pettus logged a double-double (19 points, 17 rebounds), with Janiya Adams (19 points, nine assists and five steals) and Daejah Hardin (11 points) scored in double figures as Bessemer City moved to 2-1 on the season.

East Gaston 48, Forestview 33

East Rutherford 58, Highland Tech 25

Foard 66, West Lincoln 41: Chloe Norman finished with 16 points and Farrah Richardson had 14, but it wasn’t enough in a loss to Foard.

Lincolnton 50, South Point 46: Mackenzie Sand-Odom led all scorers with 22 points, while Alexis Hough added 13 to lead Lincolnton past South Point. The Lady Raiders were led by Maddie Frank’s 17 points, Lexi Birtwistle added 13 and Amya Graham had 10 in a losing effort.

Monday

Boys basketball

Stuart Cramer 77, South Rowan 38: Will Kelly exploded for 33 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Stuart Cramer past South Rowan.

Teammate Mason Craig added 12 points, four assists and three steals, while Jacob Joney offered 10 points, three assists and six steals.

South Rowan was led by Dalton Young, who had 13 in a losing effort.

The Storm are 2-0 on the season, welcoming North Henderson to Cramerton.

Clover 54, Union County (SC) 42: The Blue Eagles took care of business at home on Monday, moving to 2-2 on the season.

Girls basketball

Clover 45, Union County 35: Clover moved to 2-1 with a home win on Monday against Union County.

South Rowan 60, Stuart Cramer 35: The Storm was swept away by South Rowan 26-4 spurt in the second quarter, dropping it to 0-2 on the season.
