Quick Hits: Quadruple-double at Gaston Christian, South Point boys settle score with rival

Here are scores for high school basketball games in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties on Friday, Jan. 21.

Boys basketball

South Point 73, Stuart Cramer 71: After losing to Stuart Cramer on a last second shot last month, South Point scored a measure of revenge Friday night with a close win on the Storm’s home floor. Jaquis Rumph scored 25 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals to lead the Red Raiders. Cooper Ray added 19 points, with Sullivan Absher also reaching double figures with 10.

Stuart Cramer’s Will Kelly led all scorers with 28 points, with Jacob Joyner scoring 14 of his own.

Forestview 73, North Gaston 55: Daris Byers led Forestview with 20 points, Deviyus Harris-Byrd added 17 and Christian Williams followed with 12 points as the Jaguars ran away from North Gaston.

Gaston Christian 64, SouthLake Christian 56: Five scored in double figures for the Eagles as they pushed past SouthLake Christian on Friday. Jahseem Felton led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds, with Isaiah Tate, Preston Shuford and Cam Newman each scoring 12. Joe Rhyne added 10 points as Gaston Christian moved to 5-0 since the calendar flipped to 2022.

East Gaston def. Highland Tech

Cherryville at Thomas Jefferson: Game postponed to Feb. 3.

Hunter Huss at Kings Mountain: Postponed due to inclement weather.

Shelby at Burns: Game postponed to Saturday, Jan. 29.

Statesville at North Lincoln: Game postponed until Feb. 2.

Lincoln Charter at Pine Lake Prep: No score reported.

Piedmont Community Charter at Bradford Prep: No score reported.

Girls basketball

Kings Mountain 59, Hunter Huss 54 (F/OT): Saniya Wilson scored a game-high 28 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists and five steals as Kings Mountain kept its undefeated record in Big South 3A intact. She was joined in double figures by Khalia King, who had 10.

Myla Hoover (14 points), Anyssiah Love (13 points) and Brooklyn Swann (12 points) led the way for Hunter Huss in a losing effort.

South Point 52, Stuart Cramer 45: Maddie Frank had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the Lady Raiders past Stuart Cramer on Friday. Toney Milton earned a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, with Lexi Birtwistle going for 11 points and eight rebounds in a winning effort. Dasia Harris led Stuart Cramer with 25 points, with Hadley Womack adding 15 in the loss.

Gaston Christian 46, SouthLake Christian 37: Sara Plyer finished with a quadruple-double (12 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals), leading her team past SouthLake Christian on Friday. Lian Maltera had a team-high 16 points, with Lauren Fisher adding 12 of her own. Gianna Mingo also brought down a team-high 15 rebounds.

East Gaston 42, Highland Tech 35

Shelby at Burns: Game postponed to Saturday, Jan. 29.

Statesville at North Lincoln: Game postponed until Feb. 2.

Bunker Hill at Lincolnton: Game postponed.

West Lincoln at Bandys: Game postponed.

North Gaston at Forestview: No score reported.

Piedmont Community Charter at Bradford Prep: No score reported.
