Let's be honest: sequels are more often than not a bit of a let-down and leave audiences wishing they'd just let the original stand alone.

But we're delighted to report that doesn't seem to be the case for A Quiet Place Part II.

The highly-anticipated sequel to 2018's horror hit has landed some very positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, where it's been rated Fresh with critics praising it as being more than worthy of existing (which is high praise in the sequel world).

In the film, Emily Blunt reprises her role as Evelyn Abbott, while her husband John Krasinski is this time solely behind the camera (or is he?).

It follows the Abbott family as they continue their fight for survival while quickly realising that 'the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path'.

Here's what reviewers have been saying:

The Wrap

"Krasinski has grown in confidence and skill, creating a sequel that's at least as riveting if not more so than its predecessor."

Collider

"A sequel that both expands the world and digs deeper into the personal heart at its centre. Doubters, like me, are quieted."

Forbes

"While well-made and worth seeing in theatres, it plays more like a generic horror movie while also feeling like set-up for spin-offs and further sequels."

Uproxx

"By the end of A Quiet Place Part II my stomach literally hurt. There's no way I could have done another 20 minutes because it is too intense. That's one of the best compliments I can give it."

The Hollywood Reporter

"The intimacy of the storytelling tugs relentlessly at our anxieties for the duration."

Awards Radar

"A Quiet Place Part II manages to take a really fantastic film and craft a worthy follow-up. Honestly, it's the rare genre sequel that you can't have any complaints about."

Total Film

"Part II stands as a careful consolidation and continuation of its parent film rather than a departure, with the heart and hope needed to keep us invested."

A Quiet Place Part II is released in US cinemas on May 28 and UK cinemas on June 3.
