Quilts of Valor’s National Sew Day opens to participants and viewers at Mishawaka church

MISHAWAKA — As part of National Sew Day, the local Quilts of Valor: In the Bend chapter invites the public to watch and participate its sewing event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 3 at First Presbyterian Church, at 401 Lincoln Way E.

For many years, the National Quilts of Valor Foundation has designated the first Saturday in February as National Sew Day.

Veterans, active service members, their families and sewists are invited to join in this day of community service, sewing and fellowship as the chapter makes Quilts of Valor veterans and active service members.

Watch the members in action as they select fabric and patterns and sew quilt blocks into quilts that will become Quilts of Valor.

There will be quilt and quilt block kits ready to sew or sewists can work on their own Quilts of Valor project. Bring a sewing machine.

People who don’t sew can participate by sorting fabric, measuring, cutting and pressing.

Veterans, active service members, their families and sewists are invited to for lunch, which will be served at noon.

There will also be door prizes.

An elevator and chair lift are available to access the lower level of the church.
