CONCORD — The Quincy Oriole varsity golf team secured a share of the 2022 Big 8 Conference Championship Tuesday afternoon with a second place finish in the conference championship tournament held at Whiffletree Golf Club in Concord.

With the runner-up finish Tuesday Quincy wrapped up their second straight Big 8 conference championship, sharing this season with the Jonesville Comets.

Leading the Quincy effort on the day was Dave Milliman who fired a round of 92, good enough for third place overall. Not far behind was Oriole teammate Sam Sawyer who finished in fifth place overall with a round of 95.

Medalist honors on the day went to Jonesville’s Brennen Main who fired off a 90, followed by Zachary Mains of Jonesville who carded a 91. Dave Milliman of Quincy finished in third place, followed by Carter Lucas of Jonesville with a 94. Sam Sawyer of Quincy took fifth place with a 95, followed by Landyn Crance of Union City in sixth place with a score of 96 and Kyle Landis of Homer also in sixth with a 96. Carter Baker of Jonesville took eighth place with a 98, followed by Brayden Ransbottom of Bronson in ninth with a 99, and Union City’s Brayton Mears rounding out the top 10 with a 101.

Rounding out the Quincy effort was Riley Iwanicki in fourteenth place with a 107; Belle Neely with a 111; and Chase Walters also with a 111. For Neely her round of 111 was a season best round and posted her first team points of the season. Keegan Neely also competed for quincy.

In the season long standings Quincy’s Sam Sawyer was named the Big 8 conference Most Valuable Player with the best season long average in the conference, just edging out his teammate Dave Milliman who finished less than a stroke behind in the overall standings. Both were named to the Big 8 All Conference team.

The whole of the Big 8 will now look to prepare themselves for the upcoming MHSAA Regional Tournament to be held next week.
