QUINCY — The Quincy Oriole JV Football team dropped a heartbreaker to Manchester this past Monday, watching as a fourth quarter touchdown by the Dutchmen proved to be the difference in the 22-14 battle.Quincy hit pay dirt first as Carter Pish scored on a 23-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, giving the Orioles the early 6-0 lead.Manchester came back to tie up the game before the half on a 2-yard touchdown run, knotting things up at 6-6.The Dutchmen extended their lead after the break thanks to an 8-yard touchdown run, giving Manchester the 14-6 lead in the third.Quincy answered however, moving the ball down the field before scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Alex Barry. Kaleb Handy ran in the two point conversion, tying the game up at 14-14 heading to the fourth quarter.Manchester would go on to score the winning touchdown on a 2-yard touchdown run, finding the difference in the 22-14 victory.Quincy out gained Manchester in the contest 185-135, out rushing the Dutchmen 125-97 and also winning the air battle 60-38.Both teams did well in third down efficiency, with Quincy going 7 for 11 while Manchester went 7 for 10.Quincy lost three total turnovers, two fumbles and an interception, while Manchester lost a pair of fumbles.Leading the way for Quincy was Wes Wasikowski who was the workhorse back for the Orioles, carrying the ball 17 times for 52 yards. Kaleb Handy carried the ball 9 times for 38 yards while Carter Pish had just one carry for 23 yards and a score, in addition to completing one pass for 11 yards.Alex Barry had a solid day at the quarterback spot, completing 6 of 12 passes for 49 yards while rushing the ball six times for 12 yards and a score.Leading the receiving corps was Pish with one catch for 20 yards; Wasikowski with four catches for 18 yards; Handy with one catch for 11 yards; and Hudson Gray with one catch for 11 yards.Ethan Pearson led the Quincy defensive effort with seven tackles, followed by Zach Abbeg with six tackles. Wasikowski added five, followed by Landon Bearden with four, Zac Hollingsworth with four, and Brody Haylett with two tackles, one for a loss.Carter Pish and Landon Bearden both recovered fumbles for the JV Orioles.With the tough loss the Quincy JV Orioles fall to 2-3 overall on the season.Union City JV downs HomerHOMER — While no individual stats or scoring plays were reported, it was reported that the Union City JV Chargers defeated Homer by the score of 22-12. The victory is the Union City JV football team’s first win of the 2022 campaign.
