Quincy man accused of sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl

BRANCH COUNTY — Jacob Trent, 25, was released on a $10,000 cash bond on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old girl in Quincy in late 2022.

The teenage girl told Branch County Sheriff's deputies that, starting in October, Trent came to her in the Glen Avenue apartments in Quincy, where they both lived after Trent’s girlfriend left for work.

The girl said Trent had sex with her. She did not resist “because she froze,” the police report stated.

The girl reported the three incidents took place during school breaks over the winter.

Deputies interviewed Trent. The report said he admitted one incident where he claimed he woke up and found he was having sex with the girl.

The Branch County prosecutor authorized the charges after deputies completed the investigation this month.

Trent was arraigned by Magistrate Valerie White. Trent is not to have contact with the girl or any child under age 16 without adult supervision.

The three third degree criminal sexual conduct charges are 15-year felonies that would require mandatory prison if Trent were to be convicted.

Preliminary proceedings for Trent are set for March 2 and 7. He is represented by the public defender.
