QUINCY, MI. — Phil Woosnam, largely regarded as the pioneer of North American soccer and a former Welsh soccer manager once stated, “The rules of soccer are very simple, basically it is this: If it moves, kick it. If it doesn’t move, kick it until it does.”

While those rules do seem simple enough, the sport itself is complex in so many ways, I mean how many of us can correctly define the offsides rule. Well those complexities and intricacies of the world’s largest sport have not stopped two of Quincy’s finest soccer players from reaching the pinnacle of their sport, as the Quincy senior duo of Kalila Glei and Abigail Harmon have both been given the chance to play the sport they love at the next level, having signed their respective letters of intent to play soccer in college.

The following are a few memories shared by each signee, so graciously provided by Quincy High School Athletic Secretary Staci Davenport and the Quincy Athletic Department.

Glei has signed her letter of intent to play soccer at the up and coming program at Olivet College as she plans to become a Comet next season.

“I chose Olivet because of the atmosphere, it feels like home,” said Glei. “I also love the coaches and how much effort they put into the programs a well as its recruits.”

Glei will be attending Olivet College with an eye on studying exercise science and pre-physical therapy.

When asked what challenges she may face at the next level, Glei stated “I want to work on being a more confident player, moving up to the next level is intimidating and I want to overcome that.”

When thinking back to her career wearing the orange and black of Quincy soccer Glei points to a now GIF worthy moment during her junior season as a memorable moment.

“Last year, during our tournament we were playing Bronson and I got smacked in the face with the ball. Abigail (Harmon) came running over immediately and I got a bloody nose, now there’s a GIF of it on my Instagram,” Glei said with a smile.

Congratulations to Quincy’s Kallie Glei on her decision to further her academic and athletic career at Olivet College.
