Quincy's Reif voted this week's The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week
The votes are in as you the readers have once again chosen The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week, as sponsored by ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital, Omega Physical Therapy and Coldwater Chiropractic and Wellness Center.
Each week some of the best accomplishments from the prior week are put to the test versus one another, with you the readers deciding who earns the nod. This week, we go back to the wrestling mat for our Athlete of the Week as Quincy senior grappler Jacob Reif has won the vote with 46% of the votes cast.
Reif put together an amazing week of wrestling action for the up and coming Orioles, finishing his dual meet schedule undefeated. Going into the weekend Reif looked to put a cap on a great week with competition in Quincy’s own Shawn Cockrell Memorial Invitational. Reif did just that, dominating the field at 132 pounds, claiming his second straight Cockrell championship after winning the 125 pound title last year. When all was said and done Reif was voted by the tournament coaches as this year’s recipient of the Most Valuable Wrestler award for the lightweights, his second such award the season. Reif continues to excel on the wrestling mats in this his final season as an Oriole and will look to cap off a stellar career as teams from across the area close in on the MHSAA postseason beginning in early February.
Finishing in second place in the voting for the week was Bronson sophomore Aubree Calloway who stars for the Bronson Viking girls basketball team. On the week Calloway helped lead the Vikings to a pair of wins, starting with a 14 point, 4 rebound, 2 steal and 3 block effort in a win over Reading. Calloway followed that up with a team high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds, six steals, three blocks and three assists in a Bronson win over Springport to take control of the Big 8 conference race.
Also receiving votes in this week’s The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week poll were Quincy senior basketball player Neha Jain; Quincy senior wrestler Davin George; Coldwater senior basketball player Donte Work; and Union City junior basketball player Jordan Chard.
