'Quite unique': Cowboy boot brand Miron Crosby opens pop-up store in Palm Beach

A Dallas-based cowboy boot brand made its Palm Beach debut Friday.

Miron Crosby, founded in 2017 by sisters Lizzie Means Duplantis and Sarah Means, opened at The Current, a 2,468-square-foot retail space in the Hibel House building at 150 Royal Poinciana Way.

Planned as an extended pop-up business, the store sells contemporary, luxury cowboy boots in various styles and colors.

It joins two other women-owned businesses operating at The Current, a retail incubation concept that opened in January at The Royal Poinciana Plaza. The others are La Vie Style House and Hill House Home.

"We think the Royal is special," Sarah Means told the Daily News in phone interview. "We love the bougainvillea and the restaurants. All of it. It's so pretty."

Miron Crosby is expected to stay open for eight months, Duplantis said. The brand's other locations, in Dallas and Aspen, Colorado, are permanent stores. A third store is planned for Houston.

The Palm Beach pop-up will sell women's and children's cowboys boots and accessories, but not men's boots, Duplantis said. Those items are available online.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Means said she and her sister look forward to introducing their brand to Palm Beach.

"What would be a real win for us is to gain exposure in a new market," she said. "We know that people come down there for the winter, and we hope they get boots from there. We'd love to sell cowboy boots to Floridians, even in such a short period. We're anxious to do it well and try to be seen by people in the town. Our number one mission is always to serve our customers and clients."

Means and Duplantis launched Miron Crosby in an effort to bring more attention to cowboy boots as a fashion staple.

The sisters grew up on a cattle ranch in west Texas, and boots were a key element of their wardrobe.

Much of their footwear was created from their own designs and manufactured at a family factory in southern Texas.

"Because of our relationship with our cousins, they would allow Sarah and me to play with fun designs that we would come up with, or custom colors," Duplantis said. "These were things that we found were relevant given what our style was at the time, and what we thought was trending. We wanted what we thought was a really cool collection of cowboy boots that we made because that's what we wanted in our closet."

They brought their boots with them to New York City, where Duplantis worked in finance and Means worked in fashion.

Their footwear caught the attention of co-workers and others, and the sisters began discussing a potential business partnership.

"We wore our boots to work," Duplantis said. "I had my pencil skirts and my cowboy boots, and Sarah did the same. People loved them, and they resonated across the board among women. We felt there was a void in the market for contemporary cowboy boots that were on brand with the fashion trends and catwalks. We felt cowboy boots were really underrepresented in the market for a customer that wanted to wear them in a more urban setting, or traveling."

Years later, after Duplantis moved back to Dallas and started a family and Means was attending law school, they got serious about launching their business.

"We believe that cowboy boots should be at the fashion table," Duplantis said. "That's what we set out to do."

Miron Crosby, named after the sisters' great-grandfather and a pasture on the family's cattle ranch, sells handmade cowboy boots and accessories for men, women and children.

The collection features the iconic tall cowboy boot, the popular shorty, and a novel midi boot, the sisters said. Prices range from $1,195 to $3,395.

Boots are custom-made by artisans at factories in Mercedes, Texas, and León, Mexico.

Though the brand includes boots for men, women and children, the majority of the company's business is its women's collection.

"That certainly gets the most attention," Duplantis said.

Miron Crosby does a robust online business, but Duplantis and Means hope the new Palm Beach pop-up store will draw an enthusiastic customer base.

"I really don't know if there's an offering like ours, certainly not in the Royal," Duplantis said. "We feel like this is something new and really hard to get. It's almost impossible to get with the exception of online ordering. We're excited to offer something new and quite unique to an amazing customer base."
