R&B icons Dru Hill, 112 & Next bring tour to University of Delaware. What to know

An invasion of 1990s R&B artists will take over northern Delaware as headliners Dru Hill, joined by Next and 112, land at UD’s Bob Carpenter Center on March 24.

This big concert lineup is part of Dru Hill's 25th Anniversary tour.

Many millennials and younger fans are familiar with Next not only for their original music, but for a crazy meme they inspired in the 2010s. (But more on that later.)

Who is Dru Hill?

The multiplatinum-album-selling group Dru Hill is responsible for a number of hits including "Beauty," "Never Make a Promise" and "In My Bed."

The group from Baltimore also made a splash on movie soundtracks in the '90s for flicks "Rush Hour" ("How Deep is Your Love") and “Soul Food" ("We're Not Making Love No More") and for appearing on Foxy Brown's song "Big Bad Mama," featured in the film "Def Jam's How To Be a Player."

The original members of the group are Sisqó, Woody, Jazz and Nokio.

Woody left the group years ago to pursue a gospel career. The new roster includes everyone minus Woody, along with newer members Tao, Smoke, Black and Scola.

Sisqó continued the Dru Hill legacy with big solo songs he recorded with DMX such as "What They Really Want" and the bootylicious tune "Thong Song" with Mya.

Who is 112?

Not many R&B artists can say they collaborated with rapper The Notorious B.I.G., but 112 certainly can. Both parties teamed up on "Only You" and "Sky's the Limit."

Biggie and 112 were label mates on Bad Boy Records, years before label owner Diddy decided to make comical Uber Eats commercials for the Super Bowl.

The Grammy-winning group 112 started out as a quartet and now exists as a duo featuring members Slim and Michael Keith.

Some of their hottest songs include "Peaches & Cream," "Cupid" and "It's Over Now."

Next inspires meme: 'Why You Always Lying'

Next features original members R.L., Tweety and T-Low.

The multiplatinum group is famous for tunes such as "Wifey" and "Butta Love."

But almost as impressive as the trio selling a ton of records is the fact their mega single "Too Close" inspired a legendary meme in 2015 created by Vine star Nick Fraser.

Fraser is the guy behind the "Why You Always Lying" meme, which he sang over Next’s late-’90s single “Too Close.” Fraser’s video has over 33 million YouTube views.

The crowd would go crazy if Next does a cover of "Why You Always Lying" at the Bob.
